Overview

Carver County, MN has adopted the following codes:

  • 2003 Minnesota Building Code, based on the 2000 IBC, with amendments. Minn. R . § 1305.0011
  • 2003 Minnesota Residential Code, based on the 2000 IRC. Minn. R. § 1305.0011
  • 2003 Minnesota Guidelines for Rehabilitation of Existing Buildings, based on the 2000 GREB with amendments. Minn. R. § 1311.0010.

Carver County, MN Amer. Leg. Pub. § 150.01 (State Building Code Adopted).

The Land Management Department states it is responsible for building code administration in all ten townships within the County. Out of the ten townships, only two (Camden Township and San Francisco Township require a separate permit; the rest authorize or defer to the Carver County's Land Management Department. Further research shows not all townships have working websites to clarify this matter.

Per telephone conversation on May 22, 2019, with PLRB Staff Member, Todd Geskel confirmed enforcement of the current 2015 MN State Building Codes.

The County of Carver adopted the 2003 Minnesota Residential Code, based on the 2000 IRC. Minn. R. § 1305.0011. Carver County, MN Amer. Leg. Pub. § 150.01 (State Building Code Adopted). 

 

Existing Buildings

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.

Any buildings meeting the requirements of the International Residential Code are exempt from the Minnesota Existing Building Code chapter 1311. Minn. R. § 1309.0100.

References to the International Property Maintenance Code do not apply. Minn. R. § 1311.0020.

Commercial Building Code

Carver County adopted the 2003 IBC, statewide. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.
